CNRS INSB made a focus on the "metabolic contest" found in trypanosomes
In this paper published in the journal PLoS Biology, scientists describe a new molecular mechanism by which trypanosomes, the parasites that cause sleeping sickness, control and prioritise the use of carbon sources. Using biochemical, metabolomic and reverse genetic approaches, they have elucidated the mechanism of preference for glycerol over glucose, which is based on competition between two enzymes for the same substrate.
